Resistance to Spontaneous Mouse Cancer In- Duced by Injections of Oleic
نویسنده
چکیده
We have previously shown that resistance to transplanted cancer in mice can be greatly increased by a previous injection of a small quantity of olive oil,' or such unsaturated fatty acids as oleic, linolic, and linolenic acids.2 It is of interest to extend these observations by the study of the action of the fatty acids on the resistance of animals to their own spontaneously developed neoplasms. In a preliminary experiment, mice with spontaneous cancers were treated with oleic acid without operative intervention. The result, though inconclusive, was sufficiently suggestive of influence upon the growths to lead to more elaborate experiments. In the studies to be presented in this communication, an attempt has been made to determine, first, the effect of oleic acid injections on the frequency of recurrence after operative removal of spontaneous mouse cancer, and second, the effect on the incidence of takes of autoplastic cancer grafts. Oleic acid was used in these experiments for the reason that the range of doses effective against transplanted cancer is wider than in the other unsaturated fatty acids which have been tested.

Resistance to Spontaneous Mouse Cancer Induced by Injections of Oleic Acid
The experiments reported here show that the resistance of mice to spontaneous neoplastic diseases can be increased by means of oleic acid injections. This is demonstrated (1) by the greatly reduced incidence of local recurrences at the site of operation, and the lessened incidence (2) of primary tumors developing at other locations, (3) of metastases as encountered at autopsy, and (4) of takes ...
متن کاملDetection of Mouse Cytomegalovirus in Adenocarcinoma Bearing Razi/A Mice: Molecular and Pathological Studies
Despite a lot of research, the etiology and progression of breast cancer remain incompletely understood. Recently, human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) was reported as a risk factor for breast cancer. The aim of this study was to know whether breast cancer could be caused by cytomegalovirus or not? In this experiment seventeen samples of RAZI/A mice with spontaneous breast cancer were being gathered fr...
متن کاملRapamycin-Loaded, CapryolTM 90 and Oleic Acid Mediated Nanoemulsions: Formulation Development, Characterization and Toxicity Assessment
This study was planned to explore the capability of nanoemulsions (NEs) consisting of CapryolTM 90 and oleic acid for the delivery of rapamycin (RAP). Permeability and cytotoxicity of RAP-loaded NEs were also inspected. Pseudo-ternary phase diagrams were created with oleic acid and CapryolTM 90 (as oil phase) and four surfactants and co-surfactants at various weight ratios (Rsm). Selected NEs f...

متن کاملSignificant Changes in the Activity of L-Glutamic Acid Decarboxylase of Mouse Hypothalamus After Peripheral Injection of Cholecystokinin-8 and Caerulein
The activity of one of the metabolizing enzymes of - aminobutyric acid, (GABA), was determined in mouse hypothalamus after peripheral injections of cholecystokinin-8 (CCK-8) and caerulein (CLN). The activity of this rate-limiting enzyme, L-glutamic acid decarboxylase, (GAD), did not change thirty minutes after peripheral injections of either CCK-8 or CLN in doses of 50g/kg body weight. Howeve...
